VOLUNTEERS

RCA survives on the commitment of trained professionals from overseas. Since 1990 over a thousand volunteers have generously given their time to help young people in our care. Some stayed for a week, others stayed for years. Volunteers come from all over the world but they all say one thing:

They have gained more from their experience in Romania than they have been able to give.

WEST MIDLAND FIRE SERVICE

WEST MIDLAND FIRE SERVICE

A group of twenty men from the West Midland Fire Service went over to Siret to carry out a refurbishment project for the charity.
The team was broken down into three groups:
Two groups worked on Camlough House and Manion House.
In each house they renovated the bathroom, the kitchen, the living room along with front entrances to the homes. The work carried out was not without its problems and I do not think I was flavour of the month!
Most of the men were on their knees and bottoms for hours removing resin from the bathroom floors and preparing them ready for tiling.

THANK YOU LADS!

THANK YOU LADS!

New laminated flooring was laid in the living rooms and hallway of both homes. The entrance halls have new floor tiling in order to take off most of the wet and snow from the footwear of the young people as they entered the house.
The third group carried out work on our two buildings at the Killybegs Centre. The original Killybegs Mic was given a face life with new cladding being put on the front of the house. This transformed the look of the place and sealed it against the severe winter weather conditions.
Two of our employed young men living here, Paius and Gigel, were delighted with their newly renovated home. Paius just kept rubbing his hands with joy and to their credit, these young men were able to contribute towards financing much of the interior renovation.
They are looking after themselves and learning the skills of running a home.
At the end of a difficult week I think the firemen were happy to return home, but they did a wonderful job for the Charity, for which I am greatly indebted and the young people were delighted with their Home Improvements!
